MRS. INEZ DAUGHERTY ALLEN

Mrs. Inez Daugherty Allen was born near Brooklyn, Iowa, on Aug. 14, 1885. When she was eight years old her parents moved to Marengo, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. She was married to John Allen at Marengo on June 5, 1907. Mrs. Allen came to Grinnell with her husband shortly after their marriage and made her home here until her death on April 26, 1908 at the early age of 23 years. Beside her husband Mrs. Allen leaves an infant daughter three weeks old, who is thus deprived of a loving mother's care. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Daugherty of Marengo, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. I.E. Goodrich and Mrs. I.E. Bell of Mayfield, Canada, and two brothers, E.G. Daugherty of Perry, Iowa, and C.E. Daugherty of Jamestown, N.D. survive her. Short memorial services were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. I.E. Goodrich on Tuesday morning conducted by Rev. T.B. Hughes. The body was taken to Marengo for burial and funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at that place. Those who went to attend the funeral at Marengo were her husband, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. I.E. Goodrich, and Mrs. and Mrs. Wm Billick of Malcom. Mrs. Allen was prevented by ill health from regular attendance at church, but she had hoped to unite with the Methodist church here. She was a woman of sweet Christian character and many friends who had learned to esteem her during her short residence here will feel much sympathy for the husband who has lost an affectionate wife and the baby daughter who has lost a loving mother.
