DIES SUDDENLY

Mrs. Effie M. Cross, 72, wife of Claude B. Cross of Rte. 2, died suddenly at her home Sunday morning.

Mrs. Cross was born March 22, 1887, at Blue Springs, Neb., the daughter of Albert and Martha Johnson Clawson. On May 17, 1914, she and her husband were married at Topeka, Kan. They had three children: Mrs. Harland (Beth) Doughty, Arlington, Va.; Dr. Claude B. Cross, Colombo, Ceylon; and Albern L. Cross, Grinnell. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one brother, E.A. Clawson, Lexington, Mo.

Mrs. Cross attended the public schools of Blue Springs, Neb., Warrensburg, (Mo.) Teachers College, Kansas State College, and the University of Nebraska. She lived in Stillwater, Okla., before coming to Grinnell in 1947. She was a member of the Grinnell Methodist church and vice-president of the W.S.C.S.
