ETHEL MAE SMOUSE

Ethel Mae Smouse, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Simpson of Des Moines officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler, and soloist will be Brenda Green. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery, Coon Rapids.

The daughter of Ray Clark and Maude Holroyed Pierce, she was born Jan. 17, 1905, near Coon Rapids. She attended rural school.

She was married to Francis Lott Smouse Jan. 30, 1923 in Carroll County. They lived in Guthrie, Carroll and Audubon counties before moving to Des Moines in 1956. Mrs. Smouse was employed as a cook at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, retiring in 1978. She had recently lived with her daughter, Karen Belcher, in Grinnell.

Surviving are her children, Helen Knight of Indianola, Madaline Kemp of Des Moines and Karen Belcher of Grinnell; two sisters, Grace Palmer of Perry and Daisy Monroe of Baltimore, Md.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Marvin.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.
