HERBERT JOHNSON

Herbert (Lee) Johnson, 80, 131 4th Ave. W., Grinnell, died of lung cancer Tuesday, July 1, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

His body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Aug. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Grinnell Senior Center. Officiating will be his son Fred Furubotten of Prescott, Ariz. Interment will take place in Hazelwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Herbert (Lee) Johnson Memorial or to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

He was born March 28, 1923, in What Cheer to Herbert and Martha Becraft and was adopted and raised by his grandparents Fred and Kate Johnson in Montezuma. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. He was married on Feb. 17, 1968 to Blythe (Bee) Osborn. He was a welder with Donaldson's, raised livestock, had a boarding kennel and with his wife owned Pleasant Valley Trailer Park in Alamo, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Bee of Grinnell; five sons, Fred Furubotten of Prescott, Ariz.; John Furubotten, LomPoc, Calif.; Tom Johnson, Lessen-Hansen, Germany; Paul Johnson, Grinnell and Kevin Hawkins, Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Patricia Johnson of Virginia and Kathy Hulin of Maricopa, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and one sister Goldie Muss of Valley Station, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, two brothers, George Johnson and Don Mulbrook and one sister Louise Whannel.
