RITES TODAY FOR BAILEYS

Funeral services for Donald and Kathryn Bailey, who died Saturday morning of injuries they sustained in a car-truck collision near Des Moines on Interstate 80, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, will officiate, with music by Kathleen Heffner, organist; Carol Molison, vocalist; and Greg Neighbors, guitarist and vocalist.

Pallbearers will be David Abarr, Cliff Duncan, Clark Jensen, Earl Jensen, Scott Jensen, Robert Maring, Ed McNally, Mac Molison, Waldo Paul, Roger Roland and Roger Zimmerman.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ-Congregational, and may be left at the funeral home.

Donald Raymond Bailey was born Dec. 12, 1907, near Elmo. Mo., the son of Elija Thomas and Clara Bain Bailey. Kathryn Chandler was born Nov. 22, 1908, near Maryville, Mo., to Bernard Milton and Ruby Neal Chandler.

They attended Maryville High School and Northwest Missouri State University.

They were married on June 2, 1929, in Maryville. In 1932, they moved to Grinnell where they owned and operated the Gambles Hardware store. Mr. Bailey later became district manager for the United States Rubber Co. and was also employed for 10 years by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Mrs. Bailey was employed for over 20 years at Jensen Optometry. They were members of the United Church of Christ-Congregational.

Survivors include their two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Barbara) Neighbors of Grinnell and Mrs. Dennis (Sue) Ritter of Joliet, Mont.; four grandsons; and Kathryn's sister, Mrs. Marie Oftelie of Escondido, Calif.

They were preceded in death by Don's parents and two brothers, as well as Kathryn's parents and an infant brother.
