HOMER ALLEN

Homer Dale Allen, 85, of Grinnell died Saturday Feb. 25, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Tom Allen, Larry Ellis, Neil Johnson, Frank Moyer, Kenneth "Kutter" Paul and Jim Wallace.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mr. Allen's name may be made to Hospice Grinnell.

The son of Robert and Dora May Miller Allen, he was born July 19, 1909, in Dallas County. He attended rural school there.

He was married to Grace Lucille McElwee March 30, 1932, in Des Moines. They lived in Polk and Jasper counties before moving to Grinnell in 1937.

Mr. Allen worked for the Grinnell Shoe Factory for 26 years and later worked as a foreman for Stadiums Unlimited. He retired in 1974.

Surviving are his children, Gerald of Grinnell, Nona Johnson of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Juanita Prescott of Schenectady, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Francis and DeLois Allen, both of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Robert Jr.; and a sister, Clara Paulin.
