ALMA STEINERT SERVICES HELD

Alma M. Steinert, 96, a longtime resident of Poweshiek County, died Sunday evening, Oct. 17, at Oak Park Manor in Nevada, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ - Congregational, officiating. Organist was Julia Pearce.

Pallbearers were Francis Barkley, Donald Dearduff, Owen C. Hays, Warner Renaud, John Risse and Gary Williams. Honorary bearers were Wathal Adkins, Bob Breiting, Ronald Carpenter, Walter Risse and Gordon Ulrich. Flower bearers were Fern Olson and Mildred Sampson.

Memorials in Mrs. Steinert's name may be made to the United Church of Christ - Congregational, or to the Poweshiek County Health Services, and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Frederick M. and Edith M. Schroeder Risse, she was born June 11, 1886, at Newburg, where she lived until 1891. The family then farmed in the Malcom, Rock Creek and Grinnell areas, where she attended rural schools and Grinnell High School.

She was married to Edwin E. Steinert on March 18, 1913. She was an 80-year member of the local church and had lived at 1119 Spring St. for approximately 60 years. She had lived at Oak Park Manor since December 1980.

She is survived by her daughter, Esther V. Steinert of Grinnell and was preceded in death by her husband in 1929, her parents, her brother Theodore H. Risse in 1958, and three sisters and one brother in infancy.
