HAZEL SHADLEY, 85

Hazel Shadley, 85, a resident of the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center, and formerly of Deep River, died Wednesday evening at the nursing home.

Funeral services were Saturday, August 2, 1997 at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Rev. Paul Stanfield officiated the service. Burial will be at the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.

Hazel Shadley was born November 28, 1911 in Poweshiek County, near Deep River, the daughter of Harry and Bess (Fahrney) Armstrong. She attended rural school in Poweshiek County, Salem No. 7; and later attended Thornburg High School. She was married to William Shadley in New Sharon in October of 1936, and he later died. Early in their married life, they lived in Deep River, moving later to Omaha, then Sioux City, before moving back to Deep River. She was a member of the Deep River Methodist Church.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Armstrong; and three sisters, Lenore Dale, Neva Richardson and her twin sister, Helen Webber.

She is survived by a son, William Shadley of Englewood, Colo.; two grandchildren, Lisa and Troy Shadley; and a sister, Dorothy Wonderlich of Sigourney.
