NELLIE ARMENT

Nellie Violet Arment, the eldest daughter of John Oliver and Jane Main Fleener, was born on a farm in Sugar Creek township, Poweshiek county, Ia., on Dec. 19, 1877.

She grew to womanhood and attended the rural schools near her home.

She was married to George Arment on Oct. 8, 1896 at Montezuma, Ia. The early part of her married life was spent on farms in Poweshiek and Jasper counties.

To this union 11 children were born: Howard of Fort Collins, Colo.; Myrtle of Searsboro; Basil and Francis of Grinnell, John and Austin of Montour, Daisy Beason of Cedar Rapids, Ethel Lane of Tama and Geraldine Hanus of Tama. One son and one daughter died in infancy.

She was a good mother and enjoyed the companionship of her children and grandchildren. She also endured the hardships of rearing a large family.

She leaves to mourn her passing 27 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, besides seven sisters and one brother, namely: Mrs. Daisy Holmes, Ethyl Poots, and Elizabeth Davidson of Grinnell; Mrs. Susie Longaker and Della De Vries of New Sharon; Mrs. Ruth Gertsma of Lynnville; Mrs. Ida Johnson of Searsboro, and Clifford Fleener of Hemet, Calif.

They moved to Tama county in 1923. She spent the remaining years in Montour, Iowa.
