SERVICES HELD

Dewey M. Hess, 57, of 209 Main St., Grinnell, died of a heart ailment Monday, Jan. 4, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A prayer service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Earl Creps, Neal Johnson, Robert Lawthers, Ivan Morse, David Palmer and Paul Pedersen. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Lester and Nellie Stone Hess, he was born on Aug. 22, 1930, in Grinnell. He attended schools in Malcom and Montezuma. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

On Nov. 10, 1956, he was married to Helen D. Quigley at Toledo. The couple farmed in the Malcom area until 1978 when they moved to Grinnell. While living in Grinnell Mr. Hess worked for the DeKalb Seed Corn Co. and at the time of his death was employed as a night watchman for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Donna and Judy Hess, both of Grinnell; and Betta Emal of Pella; one son, Dennis Hess of Grinnell; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chester.
