TRUDY VEST DOORNINK

Trudy Vest Doornink, 66, of Oxford, formerly of Grinnell, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

A celebration of her life was held Monday, Feb. 14, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Memorials designated to the Trudy Vest Doornink Memorial Fund may be sent to PO Box 368, Grinnell IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com.

She was born July 19, 1944, in Ottumwa to Forrest and Alberta Sumner Pencil. She was raised in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1964. She was united in marriage with Ron Vest in 1960, and they resided in Ottumwa, Des Moines and Grinnell. She was a homemaker and also worked at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance for several years. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1987.

She was united in marriage with Scott Doornink in 2001. They resided in Oxford.

She is survived by her husband Scott Doornink of Oxford; her sons and daughter, Russ Vest of Des Moines, Rob Vest of Grinnell and Melissa Hess of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two step children, David and Derek Doornink; and one step grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.
