The Grinnell (IA) Herald
Jan. 13, 1914

Carrie Rand-Herron.

From far across the ocean the cable has flashed a message which recalls once more one of the crucial periods in the life of Grinnell College. Carrie Rand Herron is dead at her villa home near the city of Florence, Italy. A cable message brought the news to her relatives in Burlington yesterday.

It is not The Herald's purpose to go once more into the bygone history of the days of storm and stress, which marked the connection of George D. Herron and Carrie D. Rand with Grinnell College and especially the severing of their relations with the college.

Since they left Grinnell Dr. and Mrs. Herron have lived most of the time abroad, where their home has been a center for thinkers along the lines in which Dr. Herron was interested. Two children have been born to them during these years. More recently they returned to this country and Dr. Herron began a series of articles in the Metropolitan magazine but they evidently returned not long ago to their home abroad. The press dispatches give no further information regarding Mrs. Herron's illness and death.
