RITES HELD FOR
MR. ASBERRY

Funeral services for Lewis A. Asberry, 80, of 628 State St., who died Wednesday evening at Grinnell General Hospital, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Grinnell, officiating.

Organist was Mrs. Sam Reaves, and pallbearers were Glen Asberry, Oliver Asberry, Carl Criswell, Gene Criswell, Danny Fortner, and Randy Van Gorp. Burial was in Lower Blue Point Cemetery southeast of Grinnell.

The son of Duth and Cindy Hancock Asberry, he was born June 21, 1892, in Wayne County, Ky. He attended the rural schools near his home. On Jan. 27, 1910, he was married to Dora Bridgman in Kentucky. The couple had nine children, Mrs. Ted (Lillian) Criswell, Bill Asberry, Mrs. Howard (Lucille) Hiner, Carson Asberry, Mrs. Neva Van Gorp, and Mrs. Henry (Eva) Fortner, all of Grinnell, and three daughters who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Asberry made their home in Kentucky and New Castle, Ind., before coming to Grinnell in 1933. They farmed near Grinnell for 17 years before moving to town to make their home. Mr. Asberry had been with the Rock Island Railroad before his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, six children, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister. He was preceded in death by his three daughters, three sisters, and two brothers.
