DORA ASBERRY
DIES JAN. 2

Dora May Asberry, 86, of 1104 Hamilton Street, Grinnell, died Friday evening, Jan. 2, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Services for Dora Asberry were held at 1:30 today, Monday, Jan. 5, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Shively, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Sam Reaves. Casketbearers were Glen Asberry, Lonnie Asberry, Oliver Asberry, Danny Fortner, Harold Fortner and Randy Van Gorp. Burial was made in Lower Blue Point Cemetery south of Grinnell.

Dora Asberry was the daughter of William and Betty Frost Bridgmen. She was born on May 7, 1889 in Wayne County, Ken. On Jan. 27, 1910, she was married to Lewis Albert Asberry. They had nine children.

The couple lived in Kentucky and New Castle, Ind., before coming to Grinnell in 1933. They farmed near Grinnell until 1950 and then moved to town.

She is survived by her six children: Mrs. Ted (Lillian) Criswell, William D. Asberry, Mrs. Howard (Lucille) Hiner, Carson Asberry, Mrs. Henry (Eva) Fortner, and Mrs. Neva Van Gorp, all of Grinnell; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Daniels of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 1973, her parents, three infant daughters, five brothers, one sister and five grandchildren.
