DANIEL WARD RITES TUESDAY

Daniel P. Ward, 78, of the Mayflower Home, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday noon, March 1, at the Mayflower Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Philip Ramstad officiating. Organist will be Deanna Acrea, and pallbearers will be Danny and Harold Badger, Bill, Greg and Dave Dimit, and Donald Roof.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery following military rites, performed by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, at the church.

The son of Albert and Sarah Peters Ward, he was born on Feb. 20, 1908, at Buffalo Center. He graduated from Waverly High School and received an athletic scholarship to Coe College.

He was married to Ruth Leonore Schaefer on June 26, 1932, at Cedar Rapids. Mr. Ward worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years. During World War II he served with the Seabees in the Pacific. The couple moved to Grinnell in 1976.

Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Albert of Waverly, Harry of Reinbeck and Frank of Japan; and one sister Harriett Walker of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Wesley, Walter, Harold and William Ward.
