Mary A. Shull was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, March 25, 1832. She was united in marriage with Joel Dunton May 12, 1850. She was the mother of nine children, four sons and five daughters, five of whom are living, three sons and two daughters: Willard, Wesley, Frank and Minnie all of Brooklyn and Mrs. Charles Benson of Kellogg. There are thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She with her husband settled in early days upon a farm in this county, after removing to South Brooklyn, where they resided until death. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago.

Previous to their removal to Brooklyn they were members of the Moravian church, but in 1899 united with the Brethren church at this place.

Mother Dunton was one of the good old mothers of this community, loved and respected by all. She was a woman of benevolent heart and obliging disposition and there will be but few if any in this locality who will not be able to remember some kind act performed in their behalf by her.

After a year’s illness super induced largely from old age she passed away on Thursday, August 21st at the ripe age of 81 years, 4 months and 26 days.

The funeral service was held in the Brethren church Saturday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Burnworth, and attended by many of her friends and neighbors. She was laid beside her husband in the Moravian cemetery.
