Anna G. Patten, whose maiden name was Anna G. Shepherd, was born in Fulton county, Ill., July 17, 1837 and died January 27, 1914, aged 76 years, 6 months and 10 days.

She was united in marriage to John Patten March 4, 1858. After their marriage they resided in Henry county of the above names state for ten years, removed to this state and county in 1869, where they purchased a farm, built up a home and reared their family. As old age came on they thought it best to retire from active labor, so purchased a home in South Brooklyn and enjoyed their home until the mother was claimed by death.

She was the mother of ten children, three having died in infancy. The others grew to manhood and womanhood, four sons and three daughters. Six were present at the funeral. One son, who resides in Canada, visited his parents last month, and returned to his home on account of business and the needs of his family.

Mother Patten was a patient sufferer for nearly a year, often forgetting herself in thinking and planning for the comfort of the family. In visiting her she said she was trusting in her Saviour.

She united with the Brethren church about twenty years ago under the ministry of S. H. Bashor.

She was a good neighbor, a consistent Christian, loving wife and good mother. Funeral was largely attended by old friends and neighbors.

Sermon by her pastor, J. H. Burnworth.
