Diane Kay (Burggraaf) Hicks died at her home in Cabot, Ark., Tuesday, June 11, of cancer.
Services were held Friday, June 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Ark. with the Rev. David Fleming officiating. A second service was held Monday, June 17 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Arrangements were by Cabot Funeral Home, Cabot, Ark. and Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, 200 West Main, Jacksonville, Ark. 72076 (501) 982-8176.
Born Feb. 18, 1947, at New Sharon to Ralph Burggraaf and Marjorie Burggraaf Wickham, Diane graduated from New Sharon High School in 1965 and Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas, in 1987, with honors and a degree in education.
She was married to Donald Hicks on Aug. 20, 1965 at New Sharon, and to this union, three daughters were born.
Over the years, Diane touched many children's lives while teaching fifth and sixth grades at Central Middle School, Nederland, Texas; Ward Central and Cabot Middle School South in Arkansas. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and participated in a large number of school organizations. She loved teaching, yardwork, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Cabot, Ark.; three daughters, Denise (& Tommy) Wilbur, Bridge City, Texas; Dana (& Tracy) Melancon, Waterford, Mich.; and Donna (& Paulo) Vinanti of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren; her mother, Marjorie Wickham of New Sharon.
Diane was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, and her sister, Sally Terlouw.
