MYRNA A. GILKEY

Myrna A. Gilkey, 68, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Grinnell, died June 11, 2007, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford following quadruple by-pass surgery two weeks previously.

A celebration of life service was held June 15 at First Assembly of God in Rockford on her 50th wedding anniversary.

She was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Manistee, Mich., to Robert and Mildred Pixley Camburn. She was raised by Cecil and Alice Pixley. She was married to Tom A. Gilkey in 1957 in Adrian, Mich. The Gilkeys moved to Grinnell in 1972 and all their children attended school here. Mrs. Gilkey was employed as a certified nurses aide at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. For the past 20 years the Gilkeys have run Christian Home Care in Rockford and for many years participated in evangelizing the metro Rockford area through Carry the Cross Ministry.

Her caring, loving and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Tom Gilkey of Rockford; one daughter Becky Meldrem of Hiawatha, Iowa; three sons, Craig Gilkey of Baltimore, Md., Mike Gilkey of Salida, Colo., and Jeff Gilkey of Loves Park, Ill.; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
