GRAVESIDE SERVICES
FOR MRS. MARTENEY

Graveside services were held in Jackson cemetery at Montezuma Thursday, Oct. 29, for Mrs. Florence Marteney, a former resident of this city, who died, Oct. 26, at the Spencer Municipal hospital at Spencer, Iowa. She had been in ill health for several years.

Florence Susan, daughter of Mary Pickard and George Nickerson was born at Deep River, Nov. 29, 1874. She moved with her parents to Waynoka, Okla. in 1893 where her father homesteaded on the Cherokee Strip. Mrs. Marteney was graduated from the Wichita Business college. In 1904 she was married to T.L. Marteney. To this union one daughter, Winnifred, was born. In 1922 she returned to Montezuma where she lived until 1945 when she moved to Spencer and made her home with her daughter, who is a history teacher in the high school there. Mrs. Marteney was a member of the First Congregational church in Spencer and until she became a shut-in, was active in its women's organizations. She was a member of Chapter AT, P.E.O. at Spencer.

Besides her daughter she is survived by a sister, Mrs. May Waidley, Wichita, Kans. Also several nieces and nephews to whom she was very close.

Relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the services in Montezuma were: Mrs. Eunice Shippey, Milwaukee, Wis., J.W. Morton and Mr. and Mrs. George Morgan, Guernsey, and their daughter, Miriam of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Robert Morgan and sons, Brooklyn; Mr. and Mrs. George L. Christensen, Oskaloosa; Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Osier, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Good, Liscomb; Mrs. Ella Brannian, Deep River, and Mrs. Mildred Snyder, Belle Plaine.
