Newton Rites in Montezuma
Heart Attack Fatal to Former Resident
Funeral services for Homer Newton were conducted Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at the Montezuma Methodist church with the Rev. Merton D. Wyatt in charge. Warren Pollard of Montezuma played “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” on the organ.
Interment was in the Montezuma cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Clyde Newton, Harold Newton, Clifton Newton, Delmar Newton, Alvin Newton and Lauren Block.
Mr. Newton’s death occurred at his home in Montezuma after three years of failing health. He was 43 years old.
Homer Elmo, son of Charles and Carrie Newton, was born June 22, 1903, in Brooklyn where he spent most of his life until 11 years ago when he moved to Montezuma.
Nov. 1, 1927, he married Martha Workman and to this union were born a daughter, Vivian, and a son, Jimmy, both still at home.
In early childhood Mr. Newton was baptized in the United Brethren church in Brooklyn.
For the past 18 years he has been employed with the Iowa State Highway Commission.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by his mother, three brothers and four sisters. His father, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
