BYRON HOUGEN

Byron John Hougen, 83, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Grinnell, died of cancer Friday, July 2, in Stuart.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Gary Hess of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

The son of John and Bertha Ellingson Hougen, he was born June 12, 1910, in Story City. He was married to Doris Mitchell Sept. 17, 1985, in Cedar Rapids, Mr. Hougen was a mechanical engineer at FMC for 40 years, retiring in 1972. He had been a member of the Grinnell Kiwanis Club and had served on numerous church boards in Cedar Rapids and Kellogg.

Surviving are his wife, Doris; two sons, the Rev. Philip Hougen of Des Moines and the Rev. John Hougen of Elkton, Md.; one daughter, Lois Barker of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a stepson, Forrest Mitchell of Grinnell; a stepdaughter, Doris Duncan of Kellogg; one sister, Esther Paulson of Austin, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
