ADELE J. ANDELSON

Adele J. Andelson, 81, of the Mayflower died of congestive heart failure Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service is set for 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the Mayflower Carman Center. The Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

She was born Jan. 20, 1916, to Isadore and Rebecca Kamins Jenks in Chicago, Ill. She was raised in Chicago and graduated from Lake View High School. She attended Northwestern University and the University of Illinois. She worked for the Music Corporation of American and later the Gourfain-Cobb Advertising Agency, both in Chicago.

She was married to Dr. Mayo M. Andelson April 5, 1947. The family moved to Evanston, Ill., in 1953, and she was employed as a research secretary in the Department of Anthropology at Northwestern. Following the death of her husband in 1988, she remained in Evanston until 1992, then moved to the Mayflower here.

Surviving are her son, Jonathan of Rock Creek Lake; three grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Jenks of Santa Monica, Calif., and one sister, Lucille Jenks of Steilacoom, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Andelson Scholarship Fund and sent in care of Grinnell College.
