Brett C. Arthur, 24, of Lebanon, Mo., formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday morning, July 3, at University Hospitals in Iowa City of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident near Marshalltown a few hours earlier.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home here, with the Revs. Peter and Allyson Sawtell, co-pastors of the Newburg-Chester parish, United Church of Christ, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud. Pallbearers were William Bailey, Robert Burk, Steve Chedester, Randy Garr, Steve Kirby and Ronald Lowry. Burial was at the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma.
The son of Kenneth C. and Colleen Fudge Arthur, he was born June 30, 1958, in Grinnell. He was raised on a farm near Newburg and attended Grinnell schools. He moved with his family to Missouri in 1974 and graduated from Manfield High School in 1976. He was a member of the National Honor Society.
In 1980, he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University at Springfield. Following graduation, he joined the Federal Land Bank of St. Louis and served as a loan officer for the St. Joseph, Mo., office for the past six months.
Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Colleen Arthur of Lebanon; two brothers, Alan D. Arthur of Osage and Kenneth L. Arthur of Largo, Fla.; one sister, Leann G. Arthur of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and his grandfather, Cecil Arthur of Searsboro.
