FREDERICK HUBBARD

Frederick Harry Hubbard, 79, of Montezuma died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. George Salnave, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma, officiating. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

The son of Arthur and Ella McKeag Hubbard, he was born Aug. 29, 1911, in Montezuma. He attended school there.

On Feb. 1, 1934, he was married to Katherine Schilder in Grinnell. Mr. Hubbard worked for several area service stations, then became a meat cutter for the Monte Locker. He later was employed by several area grocery stores, Brownell's and Sig Manufacturing Co. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard operated the Malcom Locker before building their own business, Hubbard Freezer Service.

He was a 25-year member of the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a member of Midway Grange No. 2189, Knights of Pythias Aztec Lodge, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the First Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife; five children, Marilyn Krauss of Harlan, Karon Benson of Aberdeen, S.D., F. Dean of Montezuma, Ann Emehiser of Richland and Wanda Van Kampen of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Leatherman of Escondido, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Warren and William; and five sisters, Mattie Sanders, Ethel Zorn, Edna Smith, Evelyn Strong Miller and Esther in infancy.
