LINA A. SCHEVE

Lena A. Gorsch was born in Berlin, Germany on February 2, 1866 and departed this life for her eternal home on December 13, 1955 at the Lone Elm Rest home, after an illness of several years. She was 89 years of age.

She received her education in Berlin, Germany and became an accomplished singer. She was united in marriage to Edward B. Scheve and in 1890 they came to the United States. They lived in Rochester, N.Y. and later moved to Chicago. Then her husband accepted a position with Grinnell College and remained here until his death in 1924. Her only known relatives are a sister in Germany and a nephew somewhere in the United States.

She professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in 1945 and united with the Calvary Baptist Church of which she remained a faithful member and worker until her health made it impossible for her to attend. She had a love in her heart for the Jewish people and put forth a special sacrificial effort to tell them of Christ their Messiah.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one sister and nephew, many members of the Calvary Baptist Church and a host of other friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home, with J. Lester Williams officiating. Burial was in the Hazelwood cemetery.
