Anna Belle Dunbar was born April 5, 1868 near Buchanan, in Berrien County, Michigan. At the age of 8 years she, with her parents, journeyed to Poweshiek County in a covered wagon. She was among the early settlers of the community. The family settled near Brooklyn where she received her education in the rural schools of Poweshiek county.

On April 15, 1886 she was joined in marriage to Frank Kann of Brooklyn. To this union were born five children one of which preceded her in death at the age of a few days. The other children, William Kann; Mrs. Pearl Kuntz; Mrs. Mae Robey and Ted Kann, all of this community were at their mother’s bedside when her death occurred.

She passed away at her home in Brooklyn on October 25, 1937 at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 20 days. For almost three years Mrs. Kann was a very patient invalid. The last 15 weeks of that time she was bedfast. She was a great lover of her family, her home and her flowers.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving husband, her four children, 8 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Alonzo Owens of Marshalltown, Iowa, a brother, Richard Dunbar of Delafield, Illinois, besides numerous other relatives and friends.

Her life combined the Christian virtues of love, patience, faithfulness and devotion to the high ideals of life, and the inspiration of her life will ever continue in the lives of those who loved her.
