George L. Ostrom, the son of John A. and Garretta Ostrom, was born in New York state, April 12, 1832, and passed at his home in Hartwick, Jan. 20, 1924.
He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Ostrom March 21, 1858. His wife preceded him in death July 12, 1903.
There were born to this union 7 children: Murry, Fred G., Arthur R., Mrs. Mary Ormiston, Mrs. Jennie Dixon. Charles and Grant now deceased.
Mr. Ostrom had 20 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
George Ostrom had the advantage of a common school education and under his father learned the blacksmith trade. He worked in the shop and on the farm till he became of age. Then yielding to the desire to see the world and to have a home of his own, came west, arriving in Galesburg, Ill., April 1854, with $10.62 being his world possessions. (Rest of article missing)
