Popular Pastor Passes to his Reward

Death Ends Sufferings of Dr. S. E. Koons, For Eight Years Pastor of Brooklyn Presbyterian Church

After four weeks’ illness following a stroke of apoplexy, Dr. S. E. Koons passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 21.

In the death of Dr. Koons Brooklyn loses one of the most useful and highly respected of its citizens and the Presbyterian church loses a strong and worthy member, one whom the church has delighted to honor in various ways.

It is given few people to hold the respect, confidence and love of their associates to the high degree enjoyed by Dr. Koons. He was highly educated and had been entrusted with matters of heavy responsibility in his church relationship, and throughout his life retained his genial and friendly personality. He was ever ready to lend his aid to every worthy enterprise and was always “about his Father’s business.” He was stricken while in his study Sunday morning preparing for the religious services of the day. Through a long and worthy life his influence was always exerted on the side of right and his lifelong efforts were spent in the lofty purpose to deepen, broaden and make better the great brotherhood of man. His work is ended. “He had fought a good fight, he had kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will give him at that day.”
