Bernice Sheffield, 94, of Russell, Minn., a native of Grinnell, died Dec. 24 at the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall, Minn., where she had lived since 1982.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 28 in Russell, with burial there.
The daughter of William and Lucinda Smith Scandrett, she was born on May 8, 1892, in Grinnell, and lived on a farm southeast of town. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1910 and attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, graduating with a degree in home economics in 1914. She taught, and for a number of years worked as a seamstress.
On May 18, 1915, she was married to Herbert Sheffield. They lived on a farm near Marshall, Minn., until 1928 when they moved into Marshall.
Mrs. Sheffield is survived by her children, William, Wayne and Myrna Rokeh, all of Russell, Neil of Pocatello, Idaho, Richard of Florida and Dorothy Anderson of Granstburg, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Farmer of Grinnell and Alice Jones of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1964; five grandchildren; one brother, Milton Scandrett, and two sisters, Lulu Morrison and Esther Carter of Grinnell.
