John William Draughn, 20, of Barnes City died Thursday afternoon at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Death was attributed to a long-standing kidney disorder.

Draughn had been treated at Iowa City for the kidney ailment for a long period of time. Recently, he had received a kidney machine from the Iowa Kidney Foundation and had used the machine at his home.

He returned to Iowa city last week for treatment of complications arising from the kidney ailment. Officials at the hospital said he had been paralyzed from the waist down.

Hospital officials described is death as "the result of the same general disease process that caused his kidney failure."

Earlier, a fund drive for Draughn was conducted throughout the area to help offset the cost of treatment.

Funeral services were held at the Barnes City Christian Church Saturday, with burial in Barnes City Cemetery.

Draughn is survived by his wife Cynthia, his parents, and two sisters.
