LAVELL DAVID WARREN

Lavell David Warren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Warren, was born at What Cheer, Ia., Nov. 26, 1902. At the age of seven years he lost his father by death and became, in the highest sense of the word, his mother's boy. When he was eight years of age his mother moved to Grinnell, where they have resided ever since. He began his school life in the Parker school, attending there two terms. He then went to the Center school for one year, and the Cooper school one year. Had he lived till September he would have been a freshman in the high school. He had a studious nature and his ambition was to graduate from the Grinnell high school and Grinnell college. Little David was a boy of much promise, sweet natured, kind hearted, and a great comfort and help to his widowed mother.

His open, friendly countenance won for him the friendship and love of everyone who knew him. He was a basketball devotee and was always one of the little fellows who tossed the ball about during intermission at the college games. As a boy scout he became an expert swimmer and diver, and had he not been weighted down with heavy boots could have made the landing with ease. He will be missed by the entire city, but no place more than at the Methodist Sunday school, where he has been an attendant during his life in Grinnell. He was a member of the church and took an interest in everything that goes to make up the life of a Christian boy. We are comforted in the thought that our loss is His gain.

Those attending the funeral services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Zeigler and son Howard, of Muscatine; Mrs. James Warren and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bedford and daughter, of What Cheer; Mr. John Maine, of Harlan; James Maine, of Oskaloosa; Albert Mehlin, of Des Moines; and Mr. Willum, of Marshalltown.
