MRS. M.E. WHEELER
IS BURIED HERE

The body of Mrs. Mary E. Wheeler was brought to Grinnell this morning for burial beside the body of her husband in Hazelwood. Her death occurred at River Forest, Illinois.

Our older citizens will remember she was the wife of Hiram Wheeler of the firm of Pierson and Wheeler, who conducted a shoe store and shoe repair shop here in the 80's and 90's.

Mrs. Mary Hippenheimer Wheeler was an old time resident of Grinnell and was a teacher in the public schools in the old original first school building and many of her pupils are still living here and remember her in kindness.

She has been living for many years at River Forest, Illinois, and her death occurred there at the home of her daughter.

There was a short funeral service at the grave conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum. Two songs were sung by Mrs. Ferd Kiesel and Mrs. Jessie Schuyler. Bearers were W.J. Nelson, C.N. Hartzell, C.W. Hartzell, George Quivey, Frank Child, and S.E. Raffety.

The body was accompanied to Grinnell by Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Bristol and a few of the old time friends gathered at the grave to show their appreciation of a woman whose work had made her an interesting part of the history of Grinnell.

Mrs. Wheeler was a niece of the late Deacon Edward Davis, a first cousin of Mrs. A.C. Harriman and Miss Lizzie Davis.
