HAROLD THOMPSON

Harold Thompson, 89, of rural Montezuma died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at his home.

A funeral service was held Monday, July 12, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with Chaplain Cary Van Kampen of Grinnell Regional Hospice officiating. Organ music was by Alice Underwood and vocal music by Rhonda Minner. Casket bearers were Steve Thompson, Jeff Hasley, Curt Hutchinson, Chad Thompson, Dale Lamb and Larry Walz. Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery, rural Montezuma. Memorials may be made to the Montezuma Fire and Ambulance Department.

He was born April 29, 1915, in Montezuma, the son of Howard and Sylvia Tish Thompson. He was married on March 23, 1940, to Eleanor Parker in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He and his wife loved to dance especially to the music of Kenny Hofer. He was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, had served as a director of Pleasant Township School No. 6 and as a trustee of Pleasant Township.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Thompson and Delmar Thompson, both of Montezuma; two daughters, Darlene Hasley of Mouth of Wilson, Va., and Louise Hutchinson of Troy, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; one sister Fern Slagle of Brooklyn, and two brothers, Lester of Montezuma and Ray of New Sharon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
