MRS. LAURA COWLES HOSKINS
J.F. Porter of Clark's Grove, Minn., (something is missing...)
Mrs. Laura Cowles Hoskins, of 1020 Chatterton street, died at Cottage Hospital, this city on the morning of Wednesday, May 25, inst.
Mrs. Hoskins was born near Melmon, Ohio, in 1849. In 1867, with her father's family, she moved to Big Rock, Scott county, Iowa, where in 1882 she married Everett M. Hoskins. With her husband and family she lived in Big Rock until 1905, when they moved to Grinnell.
Mrs. Hoskins became a member of the Congregational church in Big Rock in 1868, and thru all her residence there was one of its most ardent members and devoted helpers. The Hoskins' home was one of open and generous hospitality that was made attractive to guests by its cordial and gracious matron. The church and community lost its social center with the removal of the Hoskins family to Grinnell, for educational purposes. With her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Hoskins united with the Congregational church in this city. One daughter, Gladys, died after a brief illness, in 1908, the other, Miss Nina, remains with the husband and three brothers to mourn the loss of a faithful mother and wife and sister.
Brief services were held on Thursday morning, the 26th inst., at the home, conducted by the Revs. T.A. Dungan and D.P. Breed, after which the body was taken to Big Rock where the funeral was held and the burial made in the family lot, among scores of life-long friends who had passed on before.
