HELEN DOWNING

Helen F. Downing, 85, of Grinnell died of heart failure Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

There are no services planned. The body will be cremated and the ashes buried at a later date at the Madrid, Iowa, cemetery.

The daughter of Henry and Harriet Robertson Sarver, she was born Sept. 17, 1910, in Poweshiek County. She attended rural school and later attended classes in the Lynnville School District. She moved to California in 1940 and was employed by Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles.

She was married to Verner Downing Aug. 12, 1945, in Los Angeles. Mrs. Downing returned to Grinnell in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Max and Harry Sarver; and one sister, Ilean Wheeler.
