William Rufus Dunlap was born November 9, 1866 at Buda, Ill. His death occurred at the Methodist hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, May 16, 1922. He came to Iowa with his father’s family when he was but two years of age. They located on a farm about four miles northwest of Brooklyn, where they lived for 52 years. About two years ago they sold the old place and moved to the present home a mile north of Brooklyn. He attended the public school which was but a few rods from the old home place. For a number of years he served as director of this same school.

He leaves to mourn his loss his aged father and mother, now in their 85th and 87th year, the one brother, Clark of Brooklyn, and one sister, Mrs. Addie Robins of Corvallis, Oregon. He was truly a great home body and for a number of years was away from home but a few hours at a time. His kindness and big-heartedness were his peculiar characteristics. The happiest moments of his life were spent while he was rendering some service to a neighbor or friend. There are few people that will gather around them more friends in a local community than did he. He not only had the ability to make friends, but to keep them. He was forgetful of self while he lived to serve others. The family have the sympathy of all the surrounding community in this hour of sorrow.

The funeral service was held at the home Thursday, May 18th, conducted by the Rev. John. W. Pool, pastor of the Methodist church.
