John Freeman Lytle was born on March 25th, 1865, in McDonna county, Illinois, and departed this life on May 1st, 1922, age 57 years, 1 month and 5 days, at his home in Brooklyn, Iowa, where he resided only a few months after moving from his farm 5 ½ miles south of Brooklyn.
He was united in marriage to Mary F. Gowl in Harrisonburg, Va., on March 2nd, 1903. To this union was born one child, Virginia Elizabeth, who with his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Hammell, Mrs. Laura Belle Harris both of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Martha Murphy of San Jose, California, three brothers, Robert B. of Broadland, S. Dak., Thomas J. and Rayburn C. both of Hitchcock, S. Dak., are left to mourn his loss, his father and mother, three sisters, and three brothers preceding him in death.
In early life he united with the Methodist church and led a faithful Christian life to the end. About two years ago, he began failing in health and everything that medical skill could do, was done for him. He was a kind father and loving husband and always patient in all his suffering.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Ward of Malcom. Interment at the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
