Mrs. Patrick Keefe was born in Ireland seventy-three years ago and died at her home in Brooklyn, Iowa, Friday morning, July 22, after an illness of more than a year, surrounded by the members of her family.
By the death of Mrs. Keefe another good wife and mother has gone to her reward, another good neighbor and kind friend gone from our midst, but her life was an example we would do well to emulate. Her patience, cheerfulness and resignation during her long and painful illness, her gratitude for every act of kindness was ever apparent, even when almost too weak for words, she never failed to thank the donor of any favor, or at least smile her appreciation. A great lover of flowers she was the recipient of many beautiful ones during her long illness and they added much to her pleasure.
She was the mother of six children, Jeremiah of Chicago; John of Creston, William, who was the victim of an automobile accident in Chicago a short time ago; Mrs. John Carroll of Grinnell; and Margaret and Charles of Brooklyn.
Her funeral was held at the home with services at St. Patrick’s church where solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Barron, assisted by Rev. Father Frencken of Victor and Hamon of Grinnell and her body was tenderly laid to rest in Calvary cemetery and covered with the beautiful flowers she loved so much. The large concourse of friends and neighbors who filled the church, the many and beautiful tokens of sympathy in the floral offerings, the words spoken by Father Barron, all tend to prove what her life was and the esteem in which she was held. So we commend her soul to God and say “may she rest in peace.”
