NEOLA PETERS, 99

Neola Winnifred Peters, 99, of Montezuma, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Rev. H. Burr Bryant of United Methodist Church officiated at her funeral. The services were at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma May 1.

Organist Alice Underwood played "Amazing Grace." Casket bearers were Mervin Morgan, Edwin Morgan, Dick Osborne, Gene Morgan, Mark Morgan and Lyle Taylor.

Mrs. Peters was buried with graveside services at the Masonic - IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma.

She was born Nov. 28, 1899 near Guernsey, the daughter of Augustus Orren and Winnifred (Nickerson) Morgan. She began country school near Guernsey before moving to Montezuma in the fourth grade. She graduated from Montezuma High School and Cedar Rapids Business College.

Upon returning to Montezuma, Mrs. Peters was Poweshiek Deputy Clerk of Court for many years.

She married Austin M. Peters in Marion on March 5, 1923. Mr. Peters worked for the civil service and his job took them to Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado.

The couple also returned to Iowa and lived in Mount Pleasant. In 1948, they moved to Lebanon, Mo., where they owned a sporting goods business.

In 1951, Mr. Peters was called back into civil service and he and his wife was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. Mr. Peters retired in Missouri in November 1964 and died April 23, 1965.

Mrs. Peters then moved to Oskaloosa and later, back to Montezuma.

She belonged to Eastern Star, United Methodist Church, UMW and Dorcas Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Effie Osier, Edna Christiansen and Eunice Shipey (Shippey) and two brothers, George and Robert Morgan.

Mrs. Peters is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to Dorcas Sunday School Class.

Watts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
