When P.A. Terrell died, Grinnell lost a man who was not only an old resident but a man who had been useful in more than one walk of life. He was clean and honorable. He could be trusted and he was trusted. He served the town for many years as policeman in the days when the duties of this office devolved on one man and only good was said of him. He at one time aspired to the office of sheriff but the field was cut up into nine candidates, three of whom lived in Grinnell, but the very large vote which Mr. Terrell received here was a compliment to his ability and honesty.

"Art" Terrell as everybody in Grinnell called him, was born near Leesburg, Ohio, in 1852, of Quaker ancestry and was a birthright member of the Quaker church. He and his wife moved first to a farm near Montezuma and in 1878 came to Grinnell where he and his wife joined the Congregational church. His occupation was that of a carpenter and he was trustworthy in his daily occupation as he was in character and habits. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge and also of the Odd Fellows Lodge and was always interested in the growth of the city which he had adopted and which he loved. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Jane, one son, Roy of this city, a niece, Mrs. Murray Fantham, of Houston, Texas, who made her home with him for many years and attended high school and college here. Two sisters also survive him, Emma Grimm and Mattie Oliphant of Olathe, Kansas. Three brothers survive him, Horace of Gardner, Kansas, Frank of Omaha, and Lycurgus of Bedford, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the house Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. George Blagg of the Methodist church. Bearers were: E.O. Porter, Grant Ramsey, Charles Bonyata, John Mehlin, Frank Clindinin and Charles Hink. Music was furnished by two freshman girls from the college, Loie Stevens and Ethel Carl.
