LIFE OUTLINED

BROOKLYN--Lily G. Wheeler, daughter of Thomas G. and Grace R. Wheeler, was born on Sept.15, 1866, in Washington, D.C., and died Nov. 28, 1959, at the Community hospital in Grinnell at the age of 93 years, 2 months, and 13 days.

In 1867 she moved with her family to Des Moines where she lived until her marriage to Benjamin F. Hicks in 1892.

After her marriage she returned with her husband to Maryland where they lived near Washington, D.C., for 18 years. During this time their five children were born.

In 1910 they moved to Brooklyn where she spent the remaining years of her life.

She was a life-long member of the Methodist church, taking an active part in Miriam Sunday school class and the Woman's Society of Christian service.

She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1949. Three brothers and two sisters also have gone on before.

Surviving relatives include her two daughters, Mrs. Dean (Ella) Gates, Park Ridge, Ill., and Mrs. Clinton (Grace) Fowler, Brooklyn; three sons, B. Forrest Hicks, Brooklyn, Dr. Wayland K. Hicks, Sioux City, and Willis E. Hicks, Mabton, Wash.; three sisters, her twin sister, Mrs. Ella Edwards, Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Effa Liggett, Des Moines, and Mrs. Lulu Bond, Colorado Springs, Colo. Besides these, she leaves 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
