DESSIE ELPHA JENKINSON, 89

Dessie Jenkinson, 89, of San Diego, Calif., died Jan. 5, 2010, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., of a stroke.

She was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Malcom, to Harley and Mabel Wolfe. She graduated from Malcom High School in 1937, and from Broadlawns Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1946. She was a resident of Malcom, Grinnell, and Des Moines before her marriage to John Raymond Jenkinson on June 16, 1951, in Lincoln, Neb. Dessie worked as a nurse most of her life in California, and held a part-time office job for the last few years, retiring in 2006.

She is survived by a brother, Dale Wolfe of El Cajon, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews, several who live in the Grinnell, Malcom and Brooklyn areas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; three sisters, Cora Hansen of El Cajon, Calif., and Betty Puls and Doris Davis of Malcom; and two brothers, Bill Wolfe of West Branch, and Bob Wolfe of Preemption, Ill.

Funeral services were held at noon, Jan. 14, at Sorrento Valley Chapel in San Diego, Calif., with burial at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, Calif. Send tributes and view pictures at www.sorrentovalleychapel.com.
