HOMER JOHANNES

Homer Johannes, 98, of Montezuma and formerly of Oskaloosa, died July 12 at the Montezuma Nursing Center. He was born on July 1, 1912 at Barnes City, the son of Leo and Luella Farr Johannes. On Aug. 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Glenna Bunting, she died June 26, 1991.

He farmed near New Sharon until the mid 1950's when they moved into Oskaloosa and he went to work for Montgomery Ward's Tire Shop. After a few years of living and working in town, Homer went back to farming.

In 1972 he retired from farming and moved back to Oskaloosa. In retirement he worked for several florists.

His family includes a brother and his wife, Dorman and Ruth Johannes of Cedar; a niece and caregiver: Donna and John Nicholson of Oskaloosa, two nephews: Scott and Elizabeth DeBruin Johannes of Cedar, and Jeff Nicholson of Oskaloosa and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Homer was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Arthur, Cleo and Ralph Johannes; six sisters: Glenna Damerval, Verna Pence, Donna Newell, Bernice Zimmerman, Letha Moore and Marvel Jackson.

Graveside funeral services were July 16 in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
