JEAN A. MESSER, 70

Jean Ann Messer, 70, of Montezuma, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

A Rosary service was held on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, and her funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 25, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Father Charles Fladung officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Jean, the daughter of Anthony L. and Emma Fritz Supalla, was born on June 9, 1936 in Jefferson County. She graduated from Pleasant Plain High School. On June 11, 1955 Jean was united in marriage with Phillip A. Messer at East Pleasant Plain. She was co-owner of Your Super Drug in Ft. Madison and Mt. Pleasant. She loved her family and granddaughters. She was past president of Soroptimist International, and a Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls leader. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, politics, cooking, watching the birds and spending time at their lake home with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Colleen and Jaqueline; two sons, Steven Craig and Joseph; and a sister, Esther Baird.

Those left to honor Jean's memory include her husband, Phillip Messer of Montezuma; her daughter, Crystalyn Messer of West Des Moines; her son, Stephen and Sharon Messer of Pleasant Hill; her daughter, Kimberlyn Messer of West Des Moines; her granddaughters, Kaytlyn Messer and Lisa Messer; and her sisters, Hazel Chuck and Maxine Peck.

Memorial contributions may be designated in Jean's name and left at the church or at Watt's Funeral Home.
