CONDUCT FUNERAL
RITES TODAY FOR
MABEL E. CARNES

Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Carnes, 71, of 1111 Spring St., Grinnell, died suddenly Monday afternoon while on a trip to the downtown Des Moines area.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Custer, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers were Mike Brooks, Tom Sanders, Orrie Haag, Lester Adkins, Ed Speth and John Peters. Burial was in Woodland cemetery at Lynnville.

She was the youngest child of Albert and Elizabeth Shroyer Arthur and was born Dec. 4th, 1894 near Granville in Mahaska county, Iowa. She attended the local schools of Lynnville and graduated from Lynnville high school. Later, she graduated from Drake University with a degree in music.

On Dec. 20th, 1919, she was united in marriage with Edward S. Carnes in Des Moines, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4th, 1964.

She is survived by a son, Philip; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward, all of her brothers, Calvin, Perry, George and Lewis Arthur; and a sister, Mrs. Alvira Miller.

Mrs. Carnes was a member of the Methodist church and the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of World War I Veterans, Barracks No. 21 of Grinnell.

She had lived in Granville, Lynnville and Des Moines before moving to Grinnell to make her home. At one time she was employed with Younkers Department Store in Des Moines.
