AUGUST ALBERT DELOOF, 92

August Albert "Gus" DeLoof was born at Ladora on Sept. 24, 1916, and died Jan. 27, 2009, at Park Terrace in Louisville, Ky., at the age of 92. He was the son of Ernest Constant DeLoof and Augusta DeVilder DeLoof. Raised in the area east of Malcom and Brooklyn area, he went to Poweshiek County schools.

He entered the Army in 1941, serving about two years in the Sudan in the Air Transport Command. He was the first volunteer from Poweshiek County.

He married Esther Lucille Hall on Aug. 4, 1947, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They farmed in the Montezuma/Brooklyn/Grinnell area for 32 years. Retiring in 1981, they moved to Grinnell. In 1994, they moved to Louisville, Ky.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Don (Betty) of Louisville, Ky., and Dick (Erna) of Cupertino, Calif.; two grandchildren, Joy and Carl; and a sister, Margaret Burns of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Leona Andes, Marian Macksey, and Dorothy Kochuyt.
