DOROTHY ELIZABETH KOCHUYT

A Mass of the Resurrection was held Tuesday morning, April 1, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor for Dorothy Elizabeth Kochuyt, 72, who died March 29, 1997, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The Rev. Richard Okumu of St. Bridget's officiated, and music was by the organist, Marilyn Kriegel. Pallbearers were Roland DeVilder, Larry Humphrey, Harold Iezek, Dan Kochuyt, Tom Van Ersvelde and Leonard Van Hamme. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Victor.

The daughter of Ernest and Augusta DeVilder DeLoof, Dorothy was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Brooklyn. She attended rural schools near her home in Poweshiek County.

She was married to Camiel R. Kochuyt April 24, 1951, in Brooklyn, The couple made their home in the Malcom, Brooklyn, Hartwick and Victor areas. After her husband's death in 1978, she moved to the Victor Senior Housing, where she was the caretaker for several years. In 1991, she moved to Friendship Manor Care Centre in Grinnell and later moved to Greenwood Manor in Iowa City in 1994.

Dorothy was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. She was a homemaker and held a passion for flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors are a brother, August A. DeLoof of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Leona Andes of Broolyn, Marian Macksey of Oskaloosa and Margaret Burns of Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established.
