Leona M. Andes, 81, of Brooklyn died Thursday, June 1, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Richard Okumu officiating. Organist was Marilyn Kriegel, and casket bearers were Michael Macksey, Larry Humphrey, Jim Foels, Don Brannian, John Andes and Melvin McClenathan. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

The daughter of Ernest and Augusta DeVilder DeLoof, she was born July 23, 1918, at the farm home near Brooklyn. She was educated in rural schools. She performed housework in the area and worked at the Grinnell Shoe Factory.

On Nov. 25, 1943, she was married to Charles Andes in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he was stationed in teh Army. She worked at Safeway stores in Cheyenne before moving back to Brooklyn in 1949. They farmed in the Brooklyn area until retiring in 1983, moving into Brooklyn in 1991. Mrs. Andes had worked for 16 years at Brookhaven Nursing home.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving are one son, Gary of Silverton, Ore.; three grandchildren; one brother, August DeLoof of Louisville, Ky.; and two sisters, Margaret Burns of Brooklyn and Marian Macksey of Oskaloosa.
