MARY ELY SERVICES SET

Mary Kathryn Ely, 72, of rural Kellogg died Wednesday morning, March 25, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers will be Billy Good, Gary Good, Rick Ely, Laurel Ely, Chris Ely, Shannon Ely, Bill Good and Ralph Skarin. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Haines Cemetery in Centerville.

The daughter of Stanley and Ella Mary Tomich Brozovich, she was born in Austria on Oct. 25, 1908. She came to the U.S. with her parents and settled in Appanoose County, where she attended school.

On Nov. 12, 1925, she was married to Laurel Jackson Ely at Centerville. They farmed in Story and Marshall counties before moving to a farm near Kellogg in 1962. Mrs. Ely was employed at Strand's Bakery and Scott's Tent and Awning Co. of Marshalltown, and she later worked for Neal's Produce of Tama. She was a former member of the United Methodist Church of Melbourne.

Survivors include her children, Florine Good of Ames, Georgie Ely of Kellogg, Laurel "Bud" Ely of Ames, Larry Ely of Des Moines, Nancy George of Greeley, Colo., Tommy Lee Ely of Kellogg and Lucinda Skarin of Brooklyn; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Brozovich of Joliet, Ill., and George Brozovich of Centerville; and four sisters, Tina Grgurich of Decatur, Ill., and Frances Furto, Elizabeth Cinkovich and Emily Margetich, all of Joliet.
